    OHSU Home Infusion Pharmacy

    Amber is the Nurse Manager of Home Infusion Pharmacy and the Ambulatory Infusion Center with Oregon Health and Sciences University based in Portland, Oregon. She began her career with OHSU in 2005 serving and growing her practice with the oncology population of the Knight Cancer Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant team for over 14 years before transitioning to community-based infusion practice.

    Her current responsibilities include direct oversight of nursing clinical staff, including supporting their daily performance and professional growth and ensuring optimal patient outcomes. Her professional interests include best practice development through translational research, central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) surveillance and prevention, and health care workforce wellness initiatives. Amber is a member of the OHSU CLABSI A3 Core Team in surveillance for community CLABSI. Participants will explore strategies to foster clinical confidence, reinforce standards of care, and build meaningful professional relationships that elevate team performance and patient outcomes.

    1. Describe the differences between preceptors and mentors.
    2. Discuss common tools/training used to equip mentors and preceptors.
    3. Explain how to encourage and recognize mentors, preceptors, and mentees in order to create a sustainable cycle.

    Nurse Necessities: Onboarding New Nurses: Covering All the Bases

    This session provides nurse leaders a structured approach to onboarding new home infusion nurses, focusing on clinical readiness, safety standards, and patient-centered care. Participants will explore strategies to build confidence, foster connection, and ensure a smooth transition into the field through mentorship and clear expectations.

    1. Describe the preparation of newly hired nurses prior to orientation.
    2. Discuss orientation planning, to include field shadowing, competency evaluation and continuous communication.
    3. Explain how a well planned and organized orientation plan contributes to nurse retention.

    Nurse Bytes: Next-Level Nursing: Cultivating Advanced Skills in Home Infusion Nurses

    This session equips home infusion nurse leaders with strategies to foster advanced clinical and critical thinking skills among their nursing staff, driving excellence in patient care. Participants will explore coaching techniques, competency mapping, and growth pathways that empower nurses to grow.

    1. Describe how cultivating advanced skills in home infusion nurse leaders to safe, effective, and patient-centered care in increasingly complex home environments.
    2. Discuss advanced skills to include Vascular Access mastery, complex infuion therapies, documentation, and patient education.
    3. Explain how opportunities for advanced certification programs, continuing education and mentorship, and preceporship will enhance nursing retention.

    Lou Anne Epperson, MSN, RN, IgCN, & is a member of INS and is an Advisory Board Member of IgNS.

    Lou Anne received her Masters of Science in Nursing with Administrative focus, and has been involved with nursing education and home infusion for over 30 years. She has presented to local and national audiences regarding home care, home infusion of Ig, nursing competency and education.  She has also published articles in peer-reviewed journals related to home infusion therapy. nutrition and nursing competency.
