Monoclonal antibody medication approvals have soared in recent years becoming a mainstay in home and alternate site infusion offerings. Nurses play a vital role in the management of these patients to ensure successful outcomes before, during, and after administration. This program will cover the development and manufacturing process of monoclonal antibodies as well as various administration strategies home infusion nurses can use to ensure patient safety by reducing the likelihood of infusion reactions. In addition, learners will understand how to recognize and manage infusion reactions in this patient population.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the development of monoclonal antibodies (mAb) and the manufacturing processes designed to decrease adverse events.
- Recognize 2 signs that may indicate a patient has developed anti-drug antibodies.
- Identify nursing strategies to mitigate the risk of an infusion reaction.
- List the immediate steps in the management an acute infusion reaction.

She is an active contributor, writer, and speaker for multiple professional organizations with expertise in standards of care, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives. Barbara is an experienced nursing faculty in both pre and post-license BSN programs; a director of an LPN IV certification program; and provides expertise in the standard of care in legal cases. Barbara divides her time between the NH White Mountains and the Texas Hill Country.
