This session provides nurse leaders a structured approach to onboarding new home infusion nurses, focusing on clinical readiness, safety standards, and patient-centered care. Participants will explore strategies to build confidence, foster connection, and ensure a smooth transition into the field through mentorship and clear expectations.
- Describe the preparation of newly hired nurses prior to orientation.
- Discuss orientation planning, to include field shadowing, competency evaluation and continuous communication.
- Explain how a well planned and organized orientation plan contributes to nurse retention.

This session equips home infusion nurse leaders with strategies to foster advanced clinical and critical thinking skills among their nursing staff, driving excellence in patient care. Participants will explore coaching techniques, competency mapping, and growth pathways that empower nurses to grow.
- Describe how cultivating advanced skills in home infusion nurse leaders to safe, effective, and patient-centered care in increasingly complex home environments.
- Discuss advanced skills to include Vascular Access mastery, complex infuion therapies, documentation, and patient education.
- Explain how opportunities for advanced certification programs, continuing education and mentorship, and preceporship will enhance nursing retention.

Lou Anne received her Masters of Science in Nursing with Administrative focus, and has been involved with nursing education and home infusion for over 30 years. She has presented to local and national audiences regarding home care, home infusion of Ig, nursing competency and education. She has also published articles in peer-reviewed journals related to home infusion therapy. nutrition and nursing competency.
